In 2016 he started bicycling and swimming and began entering Half and Full Ironman triathlon events. His wife Angela has completed several Half Ironman events as well. He began more serious cycling in high school with an entry level road bike and worked for a (very) short stint at a local bike shop. He re-introduced himself to the joys of riding bicycles in about 2008 when the demands of parenting allowed for it. Since 1953, Alex has not missed a summer in Carteret County. He is retired from running a real estate investment company and is a former CPA.
